We’ve just taken delivery of two new Kubota KX085-5 8.4t excavators.

The KX085-5 brings all the latest features you’d expect:

• Smooth operation from the turbo-diesel, direct injection V3307 engine.
• A new class-leading spacious cab with superb all-round vision including a skylight and easy-open gas-assisted front window, advanced visibility mirrors plus an improved eight-vent air conditioning.
• A double-adjustable air suspension seat, wider foot space, ergonomically shaped longer foot pedals plus an arm and wrist rest help to significantly reduce strain and minimise operator fatigue.
• A 7-inch full colour digital display screen features Kubota’s Intelligent Control System. Accurate displays of all necessary readings – such as routine maintenance alerts, engine temperature and a 90-day usage register (for machine hours worked) – are all at the operator’s fingertips.
• A rear-view camera displays the view on the 7″ LCD screen in the cab.
• Fitted with Kubota’s industry-leading Anti-Theft system. Only programmed keys will enable the engine to start up.
• 7.33m reach and 4.6m digging depth.

In February 2024 we fancied buying another Manitou MT625 6.0m telehandler but there was going to be a delay to supply so we decided to extend the range into the 9.0m model instead. 18 months later and the success of the first one has prompted us to double up with a second.

Complementing the 6.0m MT625, the MT930 offers a similarly compact design but provides extra mast length and lifting capability.

The arrival this month of two Thwaites 1.5t Swivel Dumpers sees a new line added to our dumper range.

At 1300mm wide, the Thwaites 1.5t Swivel is ideally suited to confined spaces and/or tight access. It is powered by 3-cylinder water cooled Yanmar diesel engine and utilises a Hydrostatic Transmission for ease of operation. The skip can be swivelled to 90 degrees left or right, allowing loads to be tipped in restricted areas.

This month we have boosted our skip loader fleet with the purchase of two Hinowa HS701 tracked barrows and two Thwaites 1.0t Hi Tip dumpers.

The Hinowa HS701 is a compact tracked mini dumper with very low ground pressure. At just 758mm wide it is designed to easily pass through a garden gateway. It also features a hi-tip mast lift for tipping into skips or onto flat-bed trailers.

The perennially popular Thwaites 1.0t Hi Tip is the perfect partner for the Kubota U17 mini excavator (or whenever you’re loading skips in tight spaces). It is just 1115mm wide with a load capacity of 1000kg.

Our first two Timberwolf TW 160PH Chippers have been in great demand this spring so we’ve added a third to our hire fleet.

The TW 160PH is a hydraulic feed towable 6″ woodchipper, fitted with a powerful 22hp Honda petrol engine and twin hydraulic feed rollers to handle branches to a maximum diameter of 152mm (6″).

Although it’s built with professionals in mind, the TW 160PH is also small enough and user friendly enough for non-trade use.

We’ve run traditional 2-stroke brush cutters/strimmers in our hire range for many years and have now added the option of the battery version.

The Stihl FSA135 Cordless Brush cutter is a powerful professional grade strimmer, ideally suited for DIYers and professional gardeners (who have access to power at the property they are working).

It is lighter, quieter and is easier to start than its 2-stroke equivalent, as well as being kinder to the environment.

We’ve run the traditional 2 stroke long reach hedge trimmer from Stihl for 15 years and we’ve now added their cordless version to our hire range as well.

The Stihl HLA135 Cordless Long Reach Hedge Trimmer is a powerful professional grade trimmer, ideally suited for DIYers and professional gardeners (who have access to power at the property they are working).

Doing our small bit for the environment (and saving on energy bills while we’re at it) we’ve had solar panels fitted to our depot in Basil Hill Road, Didcot.

The 87 Photovoltaic panels and associated battery system should give us about £8000-£10,000 of electricity savings per year, not to mention reducing our carbon footprint by about 18,000kg.

The next step towards a greener company will be electric vans, which will be added in 2024 once we’ve had EV charging points installed.
