New Depot Proving a Big Success

Photo of the new Didcot Plant depot at Basil RoadIt is hard to believe but already six months have passed since we moved into our new premises in Basil Hill Road, Didcot.

It took a week or two to get used to the new surroundings, but as soon as we were settled in the advantages of the new site were clear.

At Basil Hill Road we have a substantially larger yard area. This allows for ease of movement for lorries and vehicles within the yard, both ours and those of customers and visitors.

“It is great to have so much room for lorries to manoeuvre,” says workshop manager, Tony Newman, “And being so close to the A34 and perimeter roads is a major plus.”

From a working point of view, the facilities at Basil Hill Road are a world apart from Rich’s Sidings.

The purpose built workshop and offices have been moulded to our needs giving us a comfortable and user-friendly environment. As well as alterations to the building we have installed the latest telephone and computer systems. There is a PC on every desk with access to our plant hire management program as well as email and internet connection.

“We are taking Plant Hire to the next level,” says Director Matthew Tarrant, “Computers are an integral part of business life these days and we are trying to take full advantage of them.”

The move to the new yard allows us the opportunity to expand the hire fleet. This year will see the introduction of new mini excavators. Larger dumpers will be on the shopping list in the very near future as well.

These are exciting times for Didcot Plant, so watch this space!

New Floor Finish on Sale

Floor sander hirers can now get a top quality floorboard finish from the same supplier with the introduction of Rustin’s floor finish to our range at Didcot Plant.

This finish is water-based which is an advantage says Martyn Birch, our resident power tools guru, “It is much easier to apply and you don’t get the same unpleasant fumes that come with oil based finishes.

“It is touch dry in around 20 minutes and extra coats can be added in around 2 hours, which is good because we recommend 3 coats per floor.”

Once it has dried Rustin’s floor finish gives a hard, durable and transparent coating which is resistant to water and alcohol.

It is available in Satin and Gloos and comes in three can sizes: 1 litre, 2.5 litre and 5 litre.

Barreto Rotovators

The gardening season is nearly upon us and demand for the new Barreto Hydraulic Rotovators is building.

Available in a choice of 8HP or 13HP engines this petrol rotovator is built to tackle the toughest of jobs.

Car Transporter Available Again

Photo of car transporter trailer available from Didcot PlantWe have just taken delivery of a new Brian James A Series car transporter trailer.

It replaces the trailer that was stolen from out of our yard last year.

Welcome

Welcome to this, the first issue, of Didcot Plant News.

Each month it is our aim to keep you in touch with the latest developments at Didcot Plant. If we add a new item to the hire fleet you will know about it in these pages.

I hope it will be a worthwhile read. If you have any comments please e-mail me on matthew@didcotplant.co.uk.

Web Site Under Construction

The Didcot Plant web site www.didcotplant.co.uk is currently under construction.

Web designer, Emily Tarrant, is working hard to get the site ready for its launch in the Spring.

Once the site is fully operational internet surfers will be able to access an on-line price list as well as other features.

New Minis Demo’d

Potential additions to the excavator hire fleet were on demonstration during the month of February.

Volvo EC35 and Kubota KX101 3.5 tonne machines were put through their paces in the yard and on site.

As we go to press the order to buy a new machine is imminent. It will be bought to replace the earliest Pel Job EB406.

Early indications suggest that the Volvo EC35 has the upper hand.
